It is Great to be a Kid!!!
April 4, 2009. So the story goes....Lincoln, Erik, and I were working in the yard. Lincoln was happily playing in the waterfall, splashing with sticks, throwing rocks, and occasionally testing us by attempting to climb in. I stepped inside for a few minutes and when I came back out, Lincoln had moved on from the waterfall and walked over to our neighbor's swing set. Erik and I can see Lincoln from our deck, so we let him play independently for 10 minutes or so before I decided to walk down and check out what he was getting into. Boy, was I in for a surprise. Lincoln was in the sandbox with his back to me. As I got close, I called his name and when he turned around, this is what I saw.

Being a big boy and climbing the ladder to the top.

There are lots of moms out there who would surely cringe at this picture, and admittedly I did a little when I first saw just how dirty Lincoln was. But then I remembered how I grew up and understand that playing in mud puddles, getting dirt on your face, and lots of sand in your hair is what being a kid is all about. Someday, I'm sure all to soon, Lincoln will prefer playing video games to stomping in a mud puddle....so for now, I will take all the mud puddles I can get!!!
