March 17th, 2008: Happy Birthday Lincoln
March 17, 2007 (St. Patrick's Day) was a cold, dreary day with a brisk wind and the threat of snow in the air. As Erik and I drove to the hospital that Saturday mid-morning, we were completely clueless that in under two hours, we would welcome our little boy into this world. Lincoln Thomas was born at 1:23pm and as the excited, new Dad reported, Lincoln was a fighting Irish weight of just 5 lbs. He measured 19 inches long and gave us some good healthy cries before nestling in for his first nap in my arms.
When you are in the moment of each day, living with and loving Lincoln, it seems like time stands still. Yet here we are, 365 days later, and wow, how much he has changed as a person and changed our lives. Erik and I are so proud and so grateful to have him.
Lincoln then...
Lincoln now...
Lincoln has nearly tripled in size. He now weighs 18 lbs, 4oz. and measures 27 3/4 inches. He talks all the time - no recognizable words yet, but he has all sorts of jargon. He has seven going on eight teeth, can stand, clap, wave, loves music, seeks out the company of Chase and the cats, points and turns to look at things with great curiousity, feeds himself most meals, drinks from a sippy cup, and plays with toys in all sorts of creative ways. He has so many tricks and seems to develop new ones each day. We are still working on the 'sleeping through the night' skill, but every now and again he does give us the gift of a solid 8 hours.

On his birthday day, Erik and I took him on a trip to the National Zoo. We enjoyed looking at the animals and being outside on such a nice day. Lincoln seemed to enjoy himself too, although I am not sure whether he really noticed the animals on four legs as much as he watched the animals on two legs walking in front of all the exhibits.
