The Birthday Party

Lincoln's first birthday bash was a lot of fun. We celebrated with Lincoln's Aunt Adrienne, Nana and Daddy Tom, and Aunt Ursula, Jeremy, and Cousin Emerson. The party day was filled with bocce ball games in the backyard, cake preparation and party decoration, a fine meal of hamburgers and fries prepared on the grill, and lots of laughter (most of the time).

Lincoln wasn't a fan of his party hat.

Lincoln's first birthday cake was a friendly turtle made of chocolate cake and green tinted cream cheese icing. I also made him a smaller cake just for smashing.

Getting ready for cake smashing.

He wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do. We were all watching anxiously hoping he was going to dive it, but in keeping with Lincoln's personality he preferred to approach it cautiously and with a few gentle pokes. After he tasted the icing, he decided he should get into with two hands.

Going for it...

Ummm....

Erik decided that Lincoln wasn't digging in and smashing the cake like he should, so Erik decided to demonstrate by putting his own face in Lincoln's cake. After the Daddy face plant, the cake was sufficiently smashed.

Chase is all partied out...
